Singing songs in worship to God.

Singing songs in worship to God.

Have you ever wondered why Christians sing worship songs to God?

As you can see by the above scripture, this what God wants us to do. It's a beautiful form of worship to the God who created music anyway.

It's very pleasing to God, to hear congregations and even individual people, singing praises to God on high. It stirs the hearts of people and allows them to become closer with God. The beautiful words and melodies even stirs the heart of God.

Psalm 96:1  Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.

Psalm 40:3
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear And will trust in the LORD.

Psalm 149:1
Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, And His praise in the congregation of the godly ones.

You can see, that in the Bible, it is very scriptural to sing songs to the Lord.

I will give you a few verses from songs that I have personally written.

Some are full songs and some are just worship songs.

Something good is going to happen to you today
Something good is going to happen because you prayed
Something good is going to happen God loves you
Something good, God is good. (x2)

Another one is:

Let it rain on me, let it rain on me
Let your Holy Spirit come down and rain on me (x2)

Let your presence come Lord and fill me up
Let your Holy Spirit come down and rain on me (x2)

Let me know your will Lord please guide my path
Let your Holy Spirit come down and rain on me (x2)

Over the years, I have written many Christian songs and poems. They are songs, words, or if you want to call them lyrics, of how I feel about God. It is an expression of my worship to God. When we sing within a Church, it's called corporate worship, that is, where we all join together and sing.

So you can see, this is what God wants us to do, to praise Him with musical instruments.

When we sing songs of Praise we are thanking God for Jesus and thanking Him for his goodness in our lives.

1st Chronicles 13:8 David and all Israel were celebrating before God with all their might, even with songs and with lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals and with trumpets.

Tell everyone about your faith.

Tell everyone about your faith.

This blog is  to reach out to Muslims and Christians. To try and help each other understand what we believe about God or Allah.

It's for me to try and illustrate to you, what Jesus means to me, and for you to try and illustrate what Mohammed means to you.

  • Why do you worship?
  • To whom do you worship?
  • How do you pray?
  • Do you stand to pray?
  • Do you kneel to pray?
  • Why do you kneel on a carpet?
  • Why do Christians sing worship songs?
  • What is the significance of the cross?
  • Do you sacrifice?
  • Do men and women pray together?
  • Do you pray at home?
  • Are all Muslims the same?
  • Are all Christians the same?
  • Why so many different denominations and churches?
  • Why call Him God?
  • Why call Him Allah?
  • Do you sing at the Mosque?
  • Do you sing at the Church?
  • What type of celebrations do you have?
  • How do you feel about other people from other religions?
  • Why do you believe in God or Allah?
  • Do you believe in Heaven or Hell?
  • How many times do you pray each day?
  • Do all Muslims believe in the same thing?
  • Do all Christians believe in the same thing?
  • Do all Muslims like each other?
  • Do all Christians like each other?
  • What is the name of your Church or Mosque leader?
  • Do you eat meat?
  • Are there limitations to what you can eat or drink?
These are just some questions that I know people ask.

The problem is, sometimes we're scared to ask, or just don't feel comfortable, that we really need to know.

The truth is, it's good to know how other religions worship. It gives us a better understanding of how they worship and to whom they worship.

In this way, we get to know them better, we get to appreciate them better and ultimately, get to love them better for who they really are.

Yes, there are cruel things that happen all around this big world we live in. There are acts of violence that most people in the world absolutely hate. The problem is, we then start to stereotype people, we think, that just because someone from that religion does something cruel, that everyone from that religion is cruel.

It's just not true, it doesn't mean that everyone from that religion is cruel and hateful like their counterparts.

Let me give you an example. I'm only giving this example, because people in this world, seem to think it's just other religions that are hateful. But, there is hatred in every sector of the world.

There is a Christian Church in Topeka, Kansas called Westboro Baptist Church. They are a very hateful Church, they hate everything and anybody. They are very well known for their hate speech.

Most Christians and Churches denounce their hatred activity in the name of God. These people are not Christians, they are very sinful in their activities and true Christians would not tolerate such things.

So, I ask you the question, does this make me or every Christian a hateful person? Does this mean, I am like them, or Christians are like them? Of course not.

So, let me ask all Christians reading this blog. If a Muslim commits a crime and takes lives around the world, does that make every Muslim bad? Of course not.

We have Muslims living around the world and in my city of Edmonton, Alberta who just want to live their lives in peace. They want their children to go to school and have an education. They want their children to play with our children. They want to make friends, just like all Christians want to make friends.

Many years ago Christians used to have a slogan called W.W.J.D.
You would find this on wristbands, books, bookmarks, toys and bracelets. The inscription stood for "What Would Jesus Do".

I ask all Christians everwhere in the world, What Would Jesus Do?
Would Jesus love the Muslims? If you're still doubtful and not sure, read this famous scripture in God's Bible.

John 3:16 New International Version (NIV)

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

After talking to my Muslim friends, they told me that they believe in Jesus. They may not accept Jesus as Christians do, but nonetheless, they believe in Jesus.

My point is, accept everyone for who they are, this goes for the Muslims too. Accept Christians for who they are and how they worship. If Christians accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, then accept that, if Christians sing songs to God in worship, then accept that, that's who we are and that's what we believe. Let's not keep thinking that we are right and they are wrong. Let God decide that.

Let us all love one another until God decides to return to this earth, because, one day He will.

Remember, that arguing and being bitter against one another, only causes hatred and resentment. Do what I do when I see my Muslim friends, give them a big hug and tell them that God loves them.

Christians loving Muslims

Christians loving Muslims

After spending the last two years with Muslim friends, I felt like I wanted to start this blog.

First of all, I would like to tell you how I met these great friends.

When I was younger, I used to love playing tennis, then about three years ago, I asked my two sons if they would like to learn the sport.
We had lots of fun. My youngest son continued to play, but every now and then, he didn't want to play.
I thought to myself, I need some other people to play tennis with. I then advertised on a Canadian buy and sell site called Kijiji in the personal column looking for other guys to play tennis.

I had quite a few responses. One of them was a guy called T.J.
Being kind of leary, I asked him what does T.J. stand for? He wrote back and said Tahir Javed. I thought, maybe I should check this name out on Facebook just to see who this person is. I did this and found one person in Edmonton under this name. After checking Facebook, I noticed that he was a singer, singing Urdu. Of course, I didn't know this at the time. He had a couple of You Tube videos, I thought, this can't be the guy who wants to play tennis. Anyway, I'm curious now and I wrote back and told him that I would meet him at the tennis courts. As I arrived early, I was practicing, I then saw this guy waving to me through the fence, sure enough, it was this singer guy. I mentioned it to him and he confirmed that he was a singer.

This isn't his day to day job, he is actually a Project Engineer, but does sing at various functions in his spare time.

We played tennis that day in 2015 and we've been friends ever since. As we got to talking about things, I explained to T.J., that I also liked to sing, though not professionally. I told T.J. that I wrote music and that I was a lyricist and poet. After a little while, he would come over to my home and listen to some of my songs. I would also listen to him singing Urdu, what a beautiful voice he has.

After a short time, he asked me if he could come over and exercise in my home gym, I said sure. During our exercise time, we would talk a lot about the Quran and the Bible. He would share about his beliefs and I would share about my beliefs. It's just over two years now and we have a great friendship. At Christmas time, I invited T.J. and his Brother Kashif over for Christmas dinner and prior to that, thanksgiving.

By the way, both Kashif and T.J. are avid ping pong players, and very good too. We have had good family times together, having dinner and then playing ping pong.

I eventually found out, that they could only eat Halal meat or fish. So at Christmas dinner, I went out and bought a turkey for my family and other friends and some salmon for T.J. and his brother Kashif. Though last Christmas, I bought a Halal turkey.

Last year, I had the opportunity to meet Kashif's wife Sameera and their three year old daughter Minsa who just came over from Pakistan. His wife is such a beautiful cook and very nice to talk to. Their daughter Minsa is adorable, lively and lots of fun. T.J. told me, that Minsa calls me Chris Uncle. I know, we would say it the other way around. So, Chris Uncle it is. I'm cool with that.

Even though T.J. and I have great conversations about the Quran and the Bible. Kashif is very knowledgeable in the stories of the Quran and a great story teller.

Kashif is currently taking his PHD at the local University.

Currently, T.J. is waiting for his wife and son Abrahim to come over from Pakistan. Sadly, T.J. and Kashif lost their mum last year. They spoke of her fondly and she seemed such a beautiful and remarkable lady. At times, T.J. would tell me how his mum would be praying for me and my family. I felt like I knew her and looked forward to meeting her as she was going to come over to Canada. Sadly though, she passed away before I had the opportunity in meeting her.

During the past two years, I have gotten to know T.J and Kashif very well, we've had some great times together, conversation, fun, good laughs and times of devotion. I tell them that I pray for them, they tell me that they pray for me. I also ask them to pray for me and they ask me to pray for them. We talk about God, Allah, Jesus and Mohamed.

They appreciate my faith and beliefs and I appreciate their faith and beliefs. As important as that is to all of us, we are great friends.

If you had asked me over two years ago if I would be friends with Muslims, my answer would have been no. Not because of Islamophobia, but because of our different beliefs. I love the family completely and think they are great to be around.

So here I was, looking for someone to play tennis with. I truly believe though, that God orchestrated our friendship. I truly believe, that God used something that I was interested in (tennis) and used it, so that I would become friends within the Muslim community.

Not only have I met T.J. Kashif and his family, but I've also met some of their friends. Some who are business owners, some that I've also played tennis with. They are friendly, hospitable, love people and care very much for everyone's well being. Most of all, they love God (Allah). Also, they talk about Jesus in the most beautiful and reverent way, never disrespecting Jesus who is my savior and Lord.

This blog is going to be about, bringing Christians and Muslims together. To help both faiths get to know one another. To bring them together for dinners and social times. That we would understand each others, beliefs, customs and who we really are as God's people.

If anyone would like to add their story to this blog, please contact me at chrispaints4u@gmail.com

If you have anything to advertise, an event within the Mosque or a Church, let me know. Please bear with me as I work on this blog. I want it to be informative as possible, so as to bring both faiths together, in unity, and in the love that God and Allah would expect from all of us.
